Highly effective: The main reason nexplanon is so effective is that it does not require that you remember to do something - the largest cause of birth control pill failure is forgetting to take the pill. Tubal ligation has a very low failure rate, but it is possible for the surgery to fail to close the tubes completely (the reported rate of failure of tubal ligation is up to 1 in 200 (1 in 2000 for nexlanon)
