Slow release of drug: Extended release medications are pills, capsules or tablets designed to release their contents slowly. Some have coatings that prevent the release until they gets past your stomach. Others have layers of coatings that dissolve at different rates. Some have tiny beads inside them that dissolve more evenly. This is different from drugs whose EFFECTS have a slow onset & duration of action.
