Pregnancy: When you are pregnant the baby puts pressure on the vessels of the pelvis which can cause pelvic congestion or swelling. This can cause swelling in the vagina which can lead to the pain or discomfort you are feeling. It is generally worse when you are standing, sitting or laying on your back. You may get some relief by laying on your sides.
