A pet for a toddler?: i would recommend a stuffed animal.at this age without button eyes that could be aspirated. If this pet is for you, labs are know to be kind to children.

Toddlers and pets: Toddlers are not physically or mentally developed enough to safely handle or be around certain pets. They are lacking in foresight and understanding of consequences. Most pets would be unsuitable, placing danger to both child and animal. Strict supervision would be required at all times. Fish would be visually entertaining and safe (but are admittedly missing the cuddle factor).

Not a good idea: I'd suspect you just want a pet for yourself and are using the kid as a bargaining chip. No kid under 7-8 has the ability to understand and comply with the responsibilities of keeping a pet. If you want a pet, get one.Understand it needs to be one tolerant of a kid, that might be abusive at times and trigger biting responses.I'd consider fish a simple and harless solution.

Stuffed animal: A stuffed toy animal is a good pet option. Your son will probably not tell the difference.
