Flash burn: Based on the question, it sounds like you were exposed to a welding flash with no eye protection. The symptoms of flash burn usually appear 3-12 hours after exposure, definitely a delayed effect. Redness, tearing, pain, foreign body sensation, grittiness, blurred vision, light sensitivity. Not much can you do to prevent after the fact, and symptoms are relieved some by ocular lubricants.
