Radiation: A head CT scan administers a high dose of radiation so if there is an alternative solution such as a MRI that would be better. Discuss this with your doctor. This is particularly important if she requires further imaging.

Risk/Benefit Ratio: We use imaging in babies and children to evaluate for concerning diagnoses which have a lifesaving treatment! Head Trauma, some concerning birth history, developmental concern or delay, or factor on physical exam (poor head growth) these are examples. So that the RISK of getting the study is outweighed by the BENEFITS of having the study, (potential early diagnosis of serious problem)
