Uncommon: This is uncommon but not always abnormal.The progestin in the contraceptive shot (Depo-provera in the US) prevents the lining of the uterus from growing. Sometimes there will be some spotting near the time the next injection is due. Since this can also be due to an infection or an inflame or irritated cervix, it would be a good idea to see your doctor for an exam.
