Ear wax: DO NOT clean your ears with cotton swabs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will only wind up packing it tighter - like the ram rod in a musket and trauma to the ear drum is very likely. Your husband's cotton swab is coming ouut purple most likely because he has traumatized his ear canal and the blood mixed with ear wax has a purplish color. He should see his Primary Care Provider to have his ears irrigated.
