A member asked:

Why does my throat hurt after throwing up alcohol?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Variety of reasons: 1. Throwing up is a violent reversal of the normal direction of flow in your GI tract. The contraction is vigorous and may injure or strain involved muscles. 2. Pressures generated are high and may induce some local stretch and tear. 3. Alcohol may be a direct irritant to any injured areas. 4. Hydrochloric acid from your stomach is definitely not friendly outside of the stomach.
