Late cycle: Sounds like maybe you didn't ovulate this month. Prolonged episodes of annovulation may result in a very heavy prolonged episode of bleeding. I would see your GYN for a serum pregnancy test and anyother blood work he/she recommends. You might be prescribed provera (medroxyprogesterone) for 10 days to bring your cycle back on.

Probably late period: If the tests were negative, you probably had a delayed ovulation, and this is probably your period. If it it continues to be abnormal, you may need to see you're GYN for evaluation.
