Yes: Campylobacter has been found in sewage and can cause infections. Food is a much more common source. It could be from either of these sources among others but if he handles raw sewage he should have protective gear (suit,gloves, etc) and should have an aggressive hand washing program. He should review his work practices as well as food preparation practices.

Campylobacter: The common routes of transmission for Campylobacter are fecal-oral, ingestion of contaminated food or water, and the eating of raw meat. Recommend wearing a protective mask over his mouth while at work to avoid accidental ingestion of fecal matter. Also avoid raw foods such as under cooked chicken.

Yes: Campylobacter is acquired through exposure to it. The most common exposure is contaminated food.......where does contaminated food goes: sewage. To prevent future infections he has to wear gloves and and be very careful when preparing / eating food (hand washing is the most important factor) but also throughlycooking poultry is essential
