Sort of: Treatment nowadays rarely ever involves traditional surgery. However, most treatment is minimally invasive and involves some injections or needle punctures. Spider veins can sometimes be treated without needles but the treatment isn't totally painless.

Yes: The small red/blue superficial spider veins are treated with sclerotherapy (injecting with solutions), and same for reticular veins which are 1-3 mm bluish ones slightly deeper in the skin. Larger ropy vv can be treated with the same solution. The larger axial veins, gsv ssv can be treated with endogenous ablation using laser or radiofrequency.

See vein specialist: The good news is you are not stuck with those varicose veins. Depending on their size, they can be very effectively treated with sclerotherapy (for small veins), phlebectomy (for med size veins) and endovenous ablation for the larger veins. While some of these options involve surgery, they are minimally invasive, requires no general anesthesia and can be done in an outpatient office.
