Don't kiss: Mouth sores/'cold sores' are usually caused by herpes simplex 1. HSV1 is transmitted through oral secretions or sores on the skin and can be spread through kissing or sharing toothbrushes or eating utensils. It is usually safe after sores have disappeared. It is possible to have spread HSV1 just before your sores appeared though.
