See below: Accutane (isotretinoin) is a drug used to treat severe acne & acne resistant to other acne treatments. It is a generally safe medication, although is known for causing birth defects when taken during pregnancy & sometimes raising triglyceride cholesterol levels. For this reason, Accutane must be taken under close doctor supervision. The most common side effect is dry skin while on the medication.
