Conception: Conceive means that the sperm has actually met the egg and triggered a pregnancy. Sperm can survive up to 4 days after sex and fertilize an egg, that is, you may ovulate as late as 4 days after having had sex and still be able to conceive, i.e., get pregnant.

Conception: Conception occurs when the sperm fertilizes the egg. That could be as soon as an hour after sex or as late as 5 or 6 days after having sex. Usually conception will occur shortly after ovulation but never more than 24 hours after ovulation - because the egg does not remain fertile for more than 24 hours.
