Congenital syphilis: A rash, enlarged lymph nodes, enlarged liver and spleen occur in the first 3 months. There may be poor weight gain, seizures, or hydrocephalus. Women are usually tested in pregnancy for syphilis, so it is rare to have an unexpected syphilis infection in a newborn.

Depends: This would depend on when in pregnancy the kid became infected. Early on it might trigger a miscarriage. In mid to late pregnancy it may go into hiding in babies system and show no obvious symptoms until well after birth. Most docs screen women for this at the first prenatal visit and during labor, so it can be picked up and treated even if no signs are present.
