Unclear: Unfortunately most of the sleep research on this topic is short terms like on the order of months or less. Some people do seem to have genetic predisposition to do well polyphasic wise others not. Just as some do well on 5 hours of sleep and others need 9. It's hard to say with any definitive answer. Feel free to go forth, but be mindful to avoid operative heavy machinery while you try it out.
