A member asked:

Today my wife vomited and she applied pressure and got a pain as she is 10 week pregnant. .is there any need to worry as she applied pressure?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

?: You may be thinking of the Valsalva maneuver, an increase in abdominal pressure when we cough, sneeze, or vomit. This is also the maneuver we ask women to do when we tell them to push toward the end of labor. It is pretty hard to avoid this when vomiting. No reason to worry about the pregnancy. But if she is dehydrated and not keeping even liquids down, she should see Dr. or go to the ER.
