3 areas of the "hip": If the pain is in the groin area then it could be a hernia, abdominal strain or inflammation in the hip joint. Outer hip is usually due to bursitis of the greater trochanter (part of the femur). Posterior hip (butt area) is usually coming from the spine. Probably need to see a doctor to figure out where the pain is coming from.
