STDs are silent: If someone with an STD is asymptomatic, they will not know they are at risk to pass on the STD. Also, some individuals may ignore or deny symptoms of STD. The saying "when you have sex with someone, you are having sex with everyone they have ever been with" is true - and the only way to know for most STDs is to get checked Before you have sex. Condom use is important, but doesn't protect 100% .

Not necessarily: Not all STDs are obvious, especially from the beginning. Also, your partner might not know unless has been treated or tested for them.
