Seek the cause: There are several possible causes of dry cough not related to a cold or infection. Post nasal drip and gastric reflux are common causes and often not felt. Very common during at night. Allergies are also possible. Check with you doctor about these possibilities. Typically once the cause is addressed, the coughing resolves.

Be seen: For short duration cough of this kind the viral upper respiratory tract infection is the common cause. For longer duration of similar cough it can be from incipient asthma, post nasal drip or acid reflux disease. You need to be seen and examined.
