A member asked:

Can breakthrough bleeding happen if your pregnant? if yes, how common is it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Vaginal bleeding: Bleeding in pregnancy is different than breakthrough bleeding as it has different causes. Spotting after sex, office exam and transvaginal ultrasound is common and come from the cervix usually, which bleeds easily in pregnancy. Bleeding more like a period can be from placenta previa, preterm labor, threatened or missed miscarriage (subchorionic bleeds). Only way to know for sure is call your OB
