Treat the cause: Citalopram is indicated for depressive episode with or without agoraphobia, treating the underlying cause is the key. Citalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, which does not usually cause withdrawal side effect when compared to benzodiazepine derivatives. However, discontinued antidepressant without addressing underlying cause may cause exacerbation of your existing condition.

Gradually: Easiest to go gradually by say 5mg a week until off. Expect a few symptoms and if too marked,go slower.
