Adenopathy: Generally lymph nodes react to something either locally around them or a systemic infection. In this case, could be a skin infection in r around the ear or something on the face or in the scalp.Also, sometimes the lymph nodes themselves can get infected. If they are tender with no other symptoms, the correct antibiotic will improve the swelling and tenderness.
