See doctor: There are a number of reasons you can bleed irregularly, which include ovulation, pregnancy, hormones, etc. With your discharge, there is also concern for infection. If your period was late, consider taking a pregnancy test. It is wise for you to see your doctor so he/she can do an appropriate exam to find out the cause. Best wishes.

Vaginal discharge: This could be normal mid-cycle spotting during ovulation if it occurs without any other symptoms and resolves on its own. It can also occur due to infections, which make the vaginal tissue sensitive. If this is a change from a woman's usual pattern and she has had recent unprotected sex and/or new partners, it is best to see a primary care physician to discuss whether STD testing is needed.
