Maybe a fracture: The 5th metatarsal bone is vulnerable to certain types of fractures. One area in particular is at the base of the bone. There are tendons that insert here, The Peronius Brevis and Longus. These muscles have their origins in the leg and could be causing pain. I have seen many cases of such pain which is usually Peroneal Tendinitis and not a fracture. But you should have it looked at!
