Yes & Yes: Wearing a condom will help protect against STD's & pregnancy. Oral contraceptives will help to prevent pregnancy. Yes, you can be sexually active while menstruating and Yes - using protection is prudent.

Safe day for sex ?: If your periods are regular, which may not be the case at age 18, having sex without other birth control should be "safe", but it is always best to use condoms to prevent infection, since it is not always completely certain that your partner is without a communicable infection. If you are not prepared for pregnancy, it is always best to use birth control at any time you have sex.
