Late period: At late 40's, ovaries require much more stimulation prior to ovulation, causing delays in menses and "irregular cycles", since a "period" only occurs 14 days or so after true ovulation. Of course you could be pregnant, so obtain a serum HCG test to be certain. Ask your gyn provider about low dose oral contraceptives, which will "turn off" your ovaries, and make life a lot more predictable.
