Don't: If he is really allergic to dogs, getting a dog could make your father feel very ill with constant exposure. He could be desensitized with allergy shots but that would take 3-5 years. You could get an outdoor dog and tuna HEPA filter indoors to reduce levels of dog allergen. See an allergist to discuss options.
