No: Sanatorium is more of a historical term here in the US. They used to be centers which cared for patients suffering from chronic illnesses or those who needed long term care. Some of the sanatoriums evolved into modern day hospitals. The ICU provides patients with artificial life-support or resuscitation (pressure/volume. There are transitional care hospitals that provide long term life-support.
