Can you tell me if it's common to need a filling but not have a cavity?

Sealents: If your teeth present deep fissures with a potential for a cavity, your dentist may recommend doing sealents or preventive resin restorations, to protect your teeth from future cavities. These are protective coatings of your teeth & not called the 'Fillings'.

No need: If there is no cavity(tooth decay) there is no need for filling. Even early decay doesn't always mean you need a filling. In fact, the decay often can be reversed. Ask your dentist for more information.
