Needs to be closed: Ductus arteriosus(PDA) is normal at birth and should close soon after. If persistant ,PDA is abnormal and may become a significant problem after few months of life. It should be evaluated by cardiologist and may be closed through a catheter and not require surgery. Foramen Ovale (Communication between R/ L upper chambers of heart) normal at birth and stays open in ~25% of people.Rarely a problem .
