Teen bleeding: Unfortunately, during the teen years hormone levels fluctuate a great deal. Because of this, your uterus doesn't always know when to bleed or not. The red or brown discharge is just blood - red newer blood, brown older blood. If it is really bothering you, you could discuss use of hormone therapy to regulate things. But this should clear itself up as hormones level off after adolescence.
