Stress: It's possible that stress plays a role in suppressing the function of the hypothalamus, which controls the pituitary gland and therefore Ovaries. If the ovaries aren’t working properly, side effects may involve the menstrual cycle, including missed periods or irregular periods. As soon as the stressor is going away the cycle should go back to normal.
