Outline answer: Sperm will be viable for, say, between 2-3 days after intercourse, and after ovulation an oocyte can be fertilized for 10-24 hours. So get the sperm in early! Since you cannot "know" when ovulation will be unless you own an US machine, best strategy is aim for early, the sperm will wait for the egg, but NOT the other way around
