A 26-year-old female asked:

How long does it take for 1st or 2nd degree burns to heal??? specifically ice burns?

1-2 weeks: A first degree burn will heal faster than a second degree burn, since no blister formed. When you get a second degree burn, a blister forms, so it will take a little longer to heal. You will not have a scar after either. Since the skin will be red or pink for a while, make sure to use sunscreen

Depends: Usually when the blisters that opened heal over you should do fine without a bandage. The bandage should be telma non stick over a prescribed burn cream or Bacitracin covered with gauze so the area can breathe and the rest of the skin stays healthy.

How do you classify 1st, 2nd, 3rd degree burns?

Burn classification: 1st degree burns are superficial, non-blistering burns, like sunburn. 2nd degree burns are partial-thickness burns, and should be subclassified as superficial partial-thickness (minimal scar risk) or deep partial-thickness (more severe scar risk). Treatment is needed for most 2nd degree burns. 3rd degree burns are through the full thickness of the skin and require medical care and skin grafting.
