Kidney problems: Many reasons. Poorly controlled diabetes andhypertention are the common causes. Primary kidney diseases are also possible. This should be addressed as soon as possible to prevent permanent failure of kidneys.

Several things: Elevated urine protein is a sign of a dysfunction in the filtrating component of the kidney most of the time. In the United States, the most common cause is diabetes, high blood pressure. Other causes include acute inflammation of the kidney which is called glomerulonephritis . High urinary protein is almost always an abnormal finding and should be evaluated by a kidney specialist.
