All depends on cause: Neuropathy is a catch all term meaning nerve+disease/death. Since our brain/body has so many built in mechanisms to prevent/compensate for disease, symptoms/problems are only recognized quite late after beyond compensation. Peripheral nerve fibers can regrow ~1 mm/day, so ongoing drivers of disease must exceed repair processes before symptoms/problems detectable. DM ~most common neuropathy driver.
