Yes: At 55 years old, blood in the urine needs to be worked up in order to search for an underlying cause. You want to rule out any important or life-threatening causes for the bleeding. Please see your doctor.

Definitely: Blood in urine is abnormal and could be due to infection, stones,growths in the urinary tract or inflammation of the kidneys or bladder. Report this to your physician who will order the appropriate tests to include urinary culture,microscopic exam and cytology exam of the urine. If blood cells are seen, imaging of the kidneys and bladder with urology consultation will be done. Bladder tumor?
