Uncertain: Colon cancer grows at different rates in different people. Additionally, the starting site will impact the speed with which it has the opportunity to metastasize. Thus it is really impossible to give a specific time frame.

Many years : it usually takes 10-15 years for a polyp to grow into a cancer including stage IV cancer - but much of this also has to do with the person's age, family history and other factors. some cancers can certainly be a lot aggressive than others. but definitely a number of years.
