Trauma?: The windpipe, or trachea, is composed on cartilage on the front and sides. The back is composed of a membrane. It is possible to "crush" the trachea as a result from direct trauma. This is a dire emergency because it can lead to airway obstruction. If you are concerned about any airway injury, please seek immediate medical attention.
