It can: All idodinated contrast agents used for radiographs can cause kidney injury. The risk is proportional to your level of renal function and they should be avoided if kidney function is impaired. If it is absolutely necessary to use them special preparations to reduce the risk can be taken.

Can: Need to have your kidney function checked before you receive dye or contrast. They will use as little as appropriate to be safe also.
