Septic arthritis: Symptoms may be similar to other inflammatory joint disorders, but typically will have pain, warmth, swelling and decreased range of motion. Septic arthritis may also cause fever and feeling ill overall. Often times the only way to diagnose infected joint is by aspirating joint fluid and sending for lab analysis. Untreated, septic arthritis can cause damage to the joint.

Septic arthritis: Hi Andrew: Septic arthritis, or infection of a joint is a medical emergency. Joint infection comes on rapidly with intense pain, joint swelling, inability to move the affected joint / limb and fever/ chills. If there is suspicion of infection, joint fluid must be aspirated and tested for bacteria (and also things like gout crystals). I hope this note is not for you! Nisha
