No benefit: Escitalopram is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. This class of medications generally take about 4 to 6 weeks to receive full benefit. Breaking up your dose every 12 hours will not decrease the onset of benefit and doubling the dose may lead to unnecessary side effects. To lessen side effects such as drowsiness or upset stomach consider taking in the evening before bed with a snack.
