Several causes: There are many reasons why your periods have become irregular. A very common reason is a change in weight. Either a major weight loss or weight gain can change ovulation. Extreme exercise which changes your body fat can change your menstrual cycle. Certain medications and drugs of abuse can also change your menses. Illnesses such as thyroid, kidney and liver problems are known to do this as well.

Many Possible Reason: Cycle irregularity can happen for a variety of reasons. Some are as simple as weight gain, contraceptive use, usually hormonal types, certain medications. Other causes can be more worrisome and require treatment. While this may be unlikely at your age, I would advise you to see a GYN doctor and allow her/him to help you figure out what is happening and eliminate any worrisome causes.
