Yes & it depends: Yes, a CT scan of the brain can show encephalitis, but an MRI is often more sensitive & better at detecting encephalitis, especially early on in an infection. The prognosis in any patient depends on the virulence (severity) of the infection and degree of inflammation and location in the brain. It's best to discuss the specifics of each case to have a better idea of prognosis.
