A member asked:

Can you suggest anything that would help boost the white blood count in a patient that has leukemia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Leukemia & Low WBC: Low white blood cell count (WBC) in leukemia can be due to: chemotherapy side effect or leukemia cell crowding the bone marrow. If the low WBC is due to chemotherapy, then the WBC should increase over time. If patients develop fever while WBC is low (aka neutropenic fever) then WBC booster shots can be given: G-CSF or GM-CSF. If leukemia is the cause of low WBC, then more chemotherapy is needed.
