Definition: Synesthesia refers to the production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body. An example would be hearing of a certain sound induces the visualization of a certain color (colored hearing). Synesthesia is a genetically linked trait estimated to affect from 2 to 5 percent of the general population.
