To consider..: Are you on any kind of hormonal birth control- pills, ring, patch, injection? Sometimes it is not unusual to have breakthrough bleeding when on one of these contraceptive methods and would present as you describe. It can also be a sign of ovulation or even implantation of an embryo (pregnancy) so you may want to take a pregnancy test. If it has an unpleasant odor may also consider cervicitis.
