It's contagious, and: Herpes is contagious, and one cannot tell when she will catch it. When a person catches it, it stays in the body forever. The antibody test is a blood test and can tell if a person already has Herpes type 1, Herpes type 2, or both types. Both persons can do the test to see who has what. An infected person can consider medication to help prevent infecting his or her uninfected partner.
